If I still have to directly "trust" control plane to enhance my
applications why would I need SDN level controllers at all ?
Why not add new layer if APIs on top of existing control plane (as
opposed to adding by each vendor today their own APIs on top of control
plane which is quite incompatible with each other - just look at junos
SDK or Cisco's One-P for starter).
Yes those could be set of plugins as you call them.
Essentially what I would like to happen is that application is talking
with first router/switch hop of the network (or bunch of them to see who
is cheaper), presents it's requirements and then rest is transparent to
the application .. network should be able to meet the demand perhaps
charging for it too. I just do not see how adding an SDK controller
somewhere there in one or all of my transit ASes to be traversed brings
any value.
